September Assembly - Cultural Identity and Change

Our September assembly will be in a NEW location at a NEW time!!! This month we will feature portions of a documentary by Academy Award-winning director Ismael Saavedra. The film captures the experiences of Bolivians, and their identities and memories during a time of rapid change in the country. Professor Saavedra will join us remotely to discuss the film and his unique perspective.
Professor Saavedra’s experiences and knowledge of his native country were formed through his careers as an Air Force pilot, a law student and professor, and as a film director. He received an undergraduate degree in law at the Universidad Mayor de San Andrés, La Paz, in 1977, and a JD in law in 1980. After leaving Bolivia in 1980, he dedicated himself to his work in ethnographic and documentary film. Among his many credits are Panama Deception (Academy Award winner, 1992), Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo (Academy Award nominee, 1984), and Landscapes of Memory (prizes at the Sundance and Berlin film festivals, 1997).
Please join us for lunch before the event. The location is not ADA accessible. For info, visit
